Designing Pools with Porcelain Tile

As spring days become longer, people spend more time 
outdoors in the backyard. For many homeowners, this can include 
dreaming of refreshing this space. Backyard gatherings include pool 
days and there is no better place to focus on the design with 
porcelain tile than the pool.
Porcelain tile makes a great material in the pool, on the entire 
basin, as an accent along the waterline, or on a feature wall. It is 
fired at high temperatures and becomes incredibly dense and 
resistant to water absorption, so it performs well under the sun, in 
changing temperatures, and with exposure to chlorine. Its durability 
keeps its color, structure, and finish for years intact.
A striking way to use porcelain tile is through large format tiles 
as the main base for the installation. By using a large format tile with 
soft and subtle design, the tiles create a contemporary look with 
minimal grout lines. This highlights a seamless visual surface. 
Designers can choose a neutral tone that mimics pale stone, warm 
sand, or even a pale concrete to give it a resort-like feel.
Decorative tiles give a distinctive feel and provide a cohesive 
vibe that bridge the interior of the home to the outside with tiles that 
are similar in texture, color, and personality. When used along the 
waterline, mosaics and patterned tiles with dimension and 3-D 
surfaces catch the light and add visual interest. Accent tiles can 
also be used on waterfalls, raised spa walls, or spillways that 
elevate the design by layering texture and details.
