Choosing The Perfect Grout Color

Grout defines the final look of tile installation. There are many considerations to
make when making the selection. The same tile can take on a different feeling depending
on the color of the grout.
One way to decide is by matching the exact color of the grout to the tile. This
produces a tone-on-tone subtle effect where the grout disappears and makes the space
feel more expansive and cohesive. This is a great option for modern spaces and
applications using large format tile. It minimizes the grout lines visually and this makes the
space feel calm and uncluttered.
The color of grout can also produce the opposite effect. Choosing a color much
different from the tile will highlight the pattern, shape, and layout of the tile. This choice
works well with mosaics, smaller tiles, and checkerboard layouts. It gives the space a bold
personality and makes a statement.
Some tiles have many colors in them. Defining the colors and then choosing a midtone grout color makes a safe choice. Simultaneously, this will hide dirt better than
choosing a light colored grout. It creates a softer contrast than choosing one that makes a
stark contrast. Making the selection in the actual space makes a difference too in the
appearance of the color. The color of the grout changes depending on if it is viewed under
fluorescent, natural, high, or low light settings
Grout color is a design tool and not an afterthought. This element will change the
vibe, and intentional selection is encouraged to make sure it performs well and to get the
right effect
